Upcoming SF Events to Watch Out for in September 2018

Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory in San Francisco

If you’re looking for events and activities to add in your September calendar, start with this list:

  • Catch a ballgame at AT&T Park

Major League Baseball’s regular season is coming to a close, so be sure to root for the home team before it ends. The San Francisco Giants host the Mets, Braves, Rockies, Padres, and Dodgers all throughout the month.

A brief drive across the Bay serves up some more baseball action, courtesy of the Oakland Athletics. See how this team is climbing in rank and reputation as one of baseball’s best clubs this season. They go up against the Mariners, Yankees, Rangers, Angels, and Twins in September.

  • Experience the San Francisco Bay in the year’s most accommodating weather

September is one of the best times to enjoy year-round attractions around the Bay Area. Gone are the summer vacation crowds that clogged up street traffic, as well as the puzzling summertime fog and windy afternoons. All that’s left for you to do is to enjoy the sights in beautiful, warm weather.

If this is your idea of a September getaway, the free walking tour of the Golden Gate Bridge should be worth your time. Learn more about this iconic bridge as you walk across it. Walking tours are available every Thursday and Sunday, starting at 11 AM.

Another excellent way to take in the sights and sounds of San Francisco is by hopping on a relaxing cruise ship. There are plenty of rides to choose from, including sunset cruises, casual bay traverses, and high-speed rocket boat cruises for thrill-seekers.

  • Take part in these colorful festivals and street fairs:

    • Sausalito Arts Festival – September 1-3
Celebrate the arts, music, food, drink, and community during these Labor Day weekend festivities.
    • San Francisco Fringe Festival – September 6-15
EXIT Theater plays host to the finest grassroots theatrical productions throughout this inspiring 14-day event.
    • California Rum Festival – September 8
Head over to the SOMArts Cultural Center for a wide range of fine rums from large, boutique, and micro-distilleries. The event is a great chance to learn from the best in the biz and to mingle with fellow rum aficionados.
    • Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival – September 8 and 9
Indulge in a rich tradition of chocolate treats by discovering gourmet creations, joining an ice cream eating contest, and even sampling premium California wines.
    • Festa Coloniale Italiana – September 15
Discover San Francisco’s Little Italy district with the entire family in this celebration of Italian culture and cuisine.
    • San Francisco Cheese Fest – September 15
More than 20 craft cheese makers showcase their best creations in this annual celebration of the dairy-based delight. Aside from cheeses, cured meats, jams, beers, and wines also abound.
    • Chinatown Autumn Moon Festival – September 15 and 16
Two days of colorful entertainment, delicious food, and exceptional shopping await the curious traveler in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown district. If you’ve never tried a traditional mooncake, here’s your chance!
    • San Francisco Improv Fest – September 19-23
2018 marks the 15th year of this on-the-spot comedy extravaganza, so prepare for side-splitting laughs at the Eureka Theatre.
    • Oktoberfest – September 21-23
The best thing about Oktoberfest is that you never really have to wait until October to celebrate it. Pier 48 is the venue for the Bay Area’s weekend-long party dedicated to great beer and all things German!
    • Folsom Street Fair – September 30
Better call the babysitter and leave the kids at home for this one. This all-day adults-only festival celebrates eroticism in every form imaginable. From fetish players to nude parade-goers, this is one experience you won’t be forgetting anytime soon!
    • Architecture and the City Festival – All month long
With the 2018 festival theme, “Future City,” this month-long event presents a series of exhibitions, walking tours, films, and discussions on the fields of architecture and design.
