Life in Noe Valley – What’s Happening

Colorful San Francisco building

Noe Valley is one of San Francisco’s most in-demand neighborhoods, and for good reason – nestled among central SF’s rolling hills, this quiet residential area is a breath of fresh air in an increasingly congested city.

A popular choice for families in the Bay Area, Noe Valley attracts tech professionals who want to come home to a laid-back environment. Adjoining Twin Peaks and the Castro, the neighborhood has a high concentration of row houses, with distinctive Edwardian and Victorian architecture.

Live in the center of it all. Here’s what Noe Valley has to offer.

Shopping and dining

  • Visit Curator for high-quality, carefully-chosen pieces. As the quintessential Noe Valley retail hotspot, this boutique sells clothes, jewelry, and cosmetics made with organic materials.
  • Shop your favorite boho brands at Two Birds, which carries Joie, Haute Hippie, and Citizens of Humanity. This upscale boutique offers a great selection of sweaters, turtlenecks, wedges, and dresses.
  • Buy, sell, or trade one-of-a-kind vintage items at The Painted Bird, an independent consignment store. Find dresses in all cuts and patterns, try on some coats and jackets, and admire the store’s eclectic interior.
  • When Modern Was offers a wide selection of upcycled vintage furniture, along with arts and crafts materials like chalk paint.
  • Folio Books, a neighborhood book shop, holds writing workshops, talks, book signings, and other literary events.
  • 24th Street Cheese Co. sells over 300 kinds of gourmet cheeses from around the world.
  • Baron’s Quality Meats & Seafood, which is located in the former Drewes Bros. Meats, offers choice cuts and a fantastic selection of pre-marinated meats.
  • Book a table at Firefly, which serves delectable dishes like tender beef brisket, fried green tomatoes, and coriander-crusted wild king salmon.
  • La Ciccia serves classic Italian fare like octopus stew and seared lamb tenderloin tagliata. The sophisticated interiors make it perfect for romantic dates and business meetings.
  • Ardiana offers Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes in a casual but elegant atmosphere.

Annual events

  • Winos will have a great time at Noe Valley Wine Walk, a tasting event where participating stores offer their best wine samples. Try some of the best wines in the neighborhood, discover local wine merchants, and meet other people who share your love of wine.
  • The Noe Valley Girls Film Festival (NVGFF) screens short films made by young women from around the world. The festival also features guest speakers and an awarding ceremony in which cash prizes are given to finalists.
  • The Noe Valley Easter Egg Hunt traditionally takes place at Douglass Park each year. This family event also features live music, arts and crafts, and refreshments.
  • Enjoy an afternoon of live music SF Porchfest, which takes place simultaneously on different porches and backyards throughout Mission District and Noe Valley.
  • 24 HoliDays on 24th Street, a major retail and holiday event, takes place in December each year. Some of the best merchants will be on hand to sell their wares. Other highlights include live music, hayrides, and caroling.
