Glen Park, San Francisco

Homebuyers looking for a family-friendly community in San Francisco will love Glen Park. Located south of Noe Valley, it has much of Noe Valley’s homey vibe but offers more affordable real estate.

Glen Park is nestled along the edge of the San Miguel Range – the central hills of San Francisco. It’s named after the adjacent Glen Canyon Park, a 70-acre city park developed along a deep canyon with a stunning natural landscape.

Living in Glen Park

Glen Park is a residential neighborhood with a quiet, small-town feel that belies its convenient proximity to bustling urban centers. The neighborhood streets follow the hilly terrain, and wind down to downtown Glen Park, affectionately called “The Village” by locals.

Everything about Glen Park gives off a delightfully old-fashioned village atmosphere – from the narrow, picturesque streets to the charming homes to the quaint downtown.

Despite its seeming remoteness, Glen Park is only minutes away from San Francisco’s colorful hotspots like the Castro and Mission District. It also offers quick and convenient access to the freeway and public transportation, with a BART station serving the neighborhood.

Glen Park’s location along forested hillsides also provides excellent opportunities for outdoor activities. Glen Canyon Park offers 70 miles of hiking trails and other neighborhood parks are perfect places for a quick retreat.

The Glen Park community is a closelyknit one, with residents getting together regularly for neighborhood events and activities.

Glen Park Real Estate and Glen Park Homes for Sale

The housing stock in Glen Park ranges from cozy single-family homes to luxurious condos. Most of these are well-maintained early 1900s Victorians that have been wonderfully updated and preserved over the years. But there are also a number of recently constructed homes in contemporary styles, incorporating such details as tall glass and steel windows and state-of-the-art fixtures.

In addition to the vintage Victorians and contemporary homes, Arts and Crafts bungalows are also found in Glen Park. “Lovely Laidley” Street is known for showcasing the interesting variety of architectural styles found in the neighborhood.

Homes built on the upper portion of the hills offer picture-perfect views of the City, the scenic neighborhood and the lush green hillsides.

Regardless of the architectural style, you can expect a garden – even just a small one – to grace a home in Glen Park, enhancing the neighborhood’s small-town feel.

Attractions and amenities

  • The Village’s quaint charm is enough reason to make you want to live in Glen Park. It’s home to some of San Francisco’s best restaurants, including Gialina Pizzeria, which was on Rachel Ray Magazine’s list of the top 64 pizzerias in the United States; the Tataki Canyon Japanese restaurant; and Le P’tit Laurent, a French bistro.
  • The Village is also home to Bird & Beckett Books and Records, a vintage-themed store where you can get all your reading and music needs, including rare vinyl records. The place is also a jazz club and features live performances almost every night.
  • In addition to a 70-mile hiking trail, Glen Canyon Park also offers a bounty of other features, including a branch of Islais Creek, rock formations ideal for climbing and bouldering, and park facilities like tennis courts, a soccer field, a baseball field, and a playground.
  • The smaller but more accessible Billy Goat Park is located on top of a bluff, giving it excellent views of the city below. The park’s main draw are the swings that hang from a big tree, providing a uniquely exhilarating experience.
