Spring is in: 7 Can’t miss SF events

Golden Gate Bridge

When spring rolls around, San Francisco comes to life with a myriad of fun events. If you’re visiting the City by the Bay at this time of year, make sure to mark your calendar and save these dates:

Saint Patrick’s Day (March 17)
St. Paddy would definitely beam with pride if he sees how San Franciscans celebrate his day. The city organizes a massive, lively parade celebrating Irish culture. Live music performances make the event even more festive and the city’s many Irish pubs also organize fun block parties where residents can mix and mingle while beer flows from the tap.

Bay Area Brews Festival (March 24)
The Bay Area Brews Festival returns bigger than ever in its seventh year. As always, attendees can expect to sample the finest beers from local breweries. The admission fee includes unlimited beer samplings, and VIPs get an extra hour to enjoy all the beer on offer. Even better, proceeds from the event go to Copper’s Dream Animal Rescue.

Union Street Spring Celebration (April 1)
Dubbed the “Biggest Little Parade in San Francisco,” the Union Street Spring Celebration showcases the diverse communities found in the city. Fittingly, there’s a wide variety of family-friendly activities to enjoy at the event, from inflatable bounce houses, climbing walls, face painting, a petting zoo, and an Easter egg hunt, just to name a few.

Cherry Blossom Festival (April 14-22)
You don’t have to travel to Japan to see cherry blossoms – just visit the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival instead. The event was started in 1968 to serve as a bridge between Japanese and American cultures and features cultural performances, martial arts exhibitions, live music, and food booths. There is also the annual Queen Program, which crowns the queen of the festival.

San Francisco International Beer Festival (April 21)
Whether you love a good pint of beer or a glass of fine whiskey, you’ll find the perfect drink at the San Francisco Beer Festival. This year’s edition features new spirit tastings from The Macallan, Highland Park, Tito’s Vodka, and Tin Cup Whiskey. Each ticket bought supports the Telegraph Hill Cooperative Nursery School, a cause definitely worth toasting to.

San Francisco International Film Festival (April 4-17)
The longest-running film festival in the Americas returns for its 61st year to showcase the latest cinematic gems. It’s a venue where some of the most creative, boundary-pushing works are debuted. And of course, it’s not a film festival without a competition to honor the best filmmaking among the year’s participants.

Bay Area Dance Week (April 27-May 6)
If you love dance, the Bay Area Dance Week is a can’t-miss event. The 10-day celebration features hundreds of free dance classes that span genres and music styles. The week starts with a kickoff event wherein hundreds of people move to a dance sequence that features the best music from around the globe.
